Baltal, July 6, KNT: Amid the challenging terrain and heavy rush of pilgrims undertaking the annual Shri Amarnath Yatra, the Mountain Rescue Teams (MRT) of the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) have emerged as a vital lifeline, providing prompt medical assistance and evacuation to yatris facing emergencies along the Baltal route.

Since the commencement of the pilgrimage, the MRT personnel have responded to numerous emergencies involving pilgrims who sustained injuries after falling from horseback, suffered breathing difficulties due to the high altitude, or developed sudden medical complications during the arduous trek to the holy cave.

The specially trained rescue teams, equipped with emergency medical equipment and stretchers, have been working round-the-clock to ensure that injured and ailing pilgrims receive immediate assistance before being shifted to the Baltal Base Hospital for specialised treatment.

DIG, CRPF Srinagar Sector, Sudhir Kumar said that on Monday, the MRT personnel once again demonstrated their swift response after a woman pilgrim, identified as Manju Gupta from Haryana, sustained serious injuries following a fall from a horse during the pilgrimage. CRPF rescuers rushed to the spot, provided immediate assistance and safely evacuated her to the Baltal Base Hospital, where she was admitted for treatment.

Kumar added that elderly pilgrims frequently suffer breathing problems, exhaustion and altitude-related ailments during the yatra, while accidental falls from horses remain one of the common causes of injuries along the Baltal axis.

The Mountain Rescue Teams have been deployed at strategic locations along the route to ensure rapid response to medical emergencies, significantly reducing the time taken to evacuate injured pilgrims from difficult mountainous stretches.

Pilgrims and their attendants have appreciated the dedication and professionalism of the CRPF rescue personnel, saying their timely intervention has helped save many lives since the beginning of this year’s pilgrimage.

The rescue teams continue to remain on high alert as thousands of devotees undertake the annual pilgrimage every day. [KNT]
