Smart Meter Installer Electrocuted While Working in Srinagar, Dies

Srinagar, July 17, KNT: An 18-year-old youth died after allegedly coming into contact with a high-tension power line while installing a smart electricity meter in the Khimber Zakura area of Srinagar on Friday.

The deceased was identified as Murtaza Khatana, son of Abdul Rasheed Khatana, a resident of Garkoot in Uri area of Baramulla district.

According to hospital sources, the youth was brought to the Sher-i-Kashmir Institute of Medical Sciences (SKIMS), Soura, in an unconscious condition after sustaining an electric shock while carrying out installation work.

His attendant told the authorities that Murtaza accidentally came into contact with a high-tension (HT) line while installing a smart meter, causing him to sustain a severe electric shock before falling to the ground and suffering multiple injuries.

However, doctors at SKIMS declared him brought dead on arrival.

Police have initiated legal proceedings to ascertain the circumstances surrounding the incident. [KNT]
