Anantnag, August 3, KNT: A cloudburst struck the Batkoot area of Pahalgam in south Kashmir’s Anantnag district on Monday evening, triggering flash floods and causing panic among residents, officials said.

The sudden cloudburst led to a surge in water levels, with flash floods rushing through parts of the village and affecting normal life. Residents moved to safer locations as water entered low-lying areas.

Officials said the administration and emergency response agencies are monitoring the situation and assessing the impact of the flash floods.

There were no immediate reports of any loss. However, authorities are gathering details regarding damage to residential property, roads, agricultural land or other infrastructure.

People living in vulnerable areas have been advised to remain alert and avoid venturing near overflowing streams and flood-prone locations as intermittent rainfall continues across the region. [KNT]
