Awantipora, March 28, KNT: A court in Awantipora has awarded community service punishment to two individuals apprehended by police for being found in a drunken state at public places, officials said on Saturday.
The order was passed by the Court of the Additional Special Mobile Magistrate, Awantipora, as part of a reformative approach aimed at promoting accountability and civic responsibility.
The offenders hail from the Chersoo and Bahoo villages of Awantipora.
According to officials, the duo was apprehended by Police Station Awantipora after being found intoxicated at Main Chowk Awantipora and the Bahoo Awantipora Chowk.
The incident falls under ongoing efforts by police to curb public nuisance and ensure law and order in the area.
As part of the court’s directive, both individuals have been asked to perform cleaning duties within the court complex as a form of community service.
Officials said the measure is intended to serve as a corrective step rather than punitive action, encouraging offenders to contribute positively to society.
