
Udhampur, April 6, KNT: Shiv Kumar Sharma, IPS, on Monday formally assumed charge as the Deputy Inspector General of Police, Udhampur–Reasi Range, at the Range Police Headquarters in Udhampur, succeeding Ms. Sarah Rizvi, IPS, who has been appointed as Inspector General of Police (Crime), Jammu and Kashmir.
The appointment marks a routine but significant leadership transition in the Udhampur–Reasi Range, which oversees policing and law and order management in key districts of the Jammu region.
Upon taking charge, Sharma outlined his priorities, emphasizing a commitment to ensuring dedicated, transparent and corruption-free policing across the Range.
“Dedicated, transparent and corruption-free policing will remain our core focus,” Shiv Kumar Sharma said after assuming office, stressing the need for accountability and professionalism within the force.
He highlighted the importance of public trust in effective policing and expressed confidence in further strengthening police-public relations in the region.

Shiv Kumar Sharma (2011 batch IPS) is a senior police officer in Jammu and Kashmir, recently appointed as the Deputy Inspector General of Police (DIG) for the Udhampur–Reasi Range in April 2026. He previously served as the DIG for the Jammu–Samba–Kathua Range, where he oversaw regional security, including border areas and major pilgrimages.

Sharma said maintaining peace and ensuring law and order across the Range would remain a top priority, indicating continuity in policing efforts while focusing on improving community engagement.
Ms. Sarah Rizvi, whom Sharma succeeds, has been elevated to the post of Inspector General of Police (Crime), Jammu and Kashmir, marking a senior-level reshuffle within the police establishment.
