Bandipora, July 28, KNT: A cloudburst struck the Nagmarg area of north Kashmir’s Bandipora district on Tuesday, triggering flash floods in several downstream villages and sending panic among residents.

The sudden cloudburst in the upper reaches unleashed a massive surge of muddy water and debris, which rushed downstream, inundating low-lying areas and disrupting normal life in the affected villages.

Locals said water levels rose rapidly within a short span, with floodwaters entering vulnerable stretches and posing a threat to residential houses, agricultural land and local infrastructure.

The flash floods left people scrambling to move to safer locations as streams swelled and torrents of water swept through parts of the area.

Officials are monitoring the situation and assessing the extent of damage. There were no immediate reports of any loss of life, while authorities have advised people living along vulnerable streams and flood-prone areas to remain vigilant in view of the continuing adverse weather conditions. [KNT]
