Srinagar, August 3, KNT: The Court of the Principal District and Sessions Judge, Srinagar, on Monday convicted Ghulam Mohi-ud-Din Dar in the 2020 murder case of Abdul Gani Dar, who was killed inside the Markazi Ahle Hadees Masjid at Gawkadal, Srinagar.
The conviction was recorded in connection with FIR No. 03/2020 registered at Police Station Maisuma. The court found the accused guilty under Section 302 of the erstwhile Ranbir Penal Code (RPC) for the offence of murder.
According to the prosecution, the conviction was secured on the basis of a comprehensive chain of evidence presented during the trial. The evidence included CCTV footage of the incident, corroborative eyewitness and oral testimony, scientific and forensic evidence, recoveries effected during the investigation and other incriminating circumstances, which, the prosecution said, established the guilt of the accused beyond reasonable doubt.
The Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir was represented before the court by the Public Prosecutor, Srinagar.
Following the conviction, the court fixed August 6, 2026, for hearing arguments on the quantum of sentence.
Abdul Gani Dar alias Abdullah Gazali, a former chief of militant outfit Tehreek-ul-Mujahideen (TuM), was found dead inside the Jamiat-e-Ahli Hadith mosque at Maisuma in 2020.
In this connection, police had arrested Ghulam Mohiuddin Dar, a resident of Dalgate, from the Karan Nagar area of the city. Shortly after the arrested police had filed a charge sheet against Dar. [KNT]
