Army Soldier Dies After Accidental Firing at Forward Post in Akhnoor Sector

Jammu, August 3, KNT: An Army soldier died a day after sustaining critical injuries when his service rifle accidentally discharged while he was on duty at a forward post in the Jogwan area of Khour in the Akhnoor sector of Jammu, officials said.

The incident occurred when the soldier’s service weapon reportedly went off accidentally, leaving him critically injured. He was immediately provided medical assistance and shifted for treatment.

Despite efforts by doctors, the soldier succumbed to his injuries, officials said.

The body has been shifted to the Military Hospital, Akhnoor, for postmortem examination and will be handed over to the next of kin after completion of the required legal formalities.

Officials said the circumstances leading to the accidental discharge are being looked into. [KNT]
