Srinagar, August 4, KNT: Security has been stepped up across Jammu and Kashmir ahead of August 5, with multi-layered deployment and intensified surveillance extending from the International Border and the Line of Control to the Jammu-Srinagar National Highway and major towns across the Union Territory.

Officials said security forces have strengthened vehicle checking, area domination patrols and surveillance at strategic locations, including sensitive installations, highways, district headquarters, markets, transit camps and public places.

Security has also been reinforced along the Jammu-Srinagar National Highway (NH-44), where additional checkpoints have been established and frisking of vehicles has been intensified to ensure smooth movement while maintaining a high level of vigilance.

Along the International Border and the Line of Control, the Border Security Force (BSF) and the Army have heightened operational alertness, while police and Central Armed Police Forces have increased patrolling in urban and rural areas.

Officials said Quick Response Teams (QRTs), bomb disposal squads and anti-sabotage teams have also been deployed at vulnerable locations as part of the enhanced security grid.

The heightened security arrangements come ahead of August 5, the anniversary of the abrogation of Article 370 and the reorganization of the erstwhile state of Jammu and Kashmir in 2019. [KNT]
