‘Security Arrangements Intact for I-Day Celebrations: IGP Kashmir

Srinagar, Aug 11, KNT: Inspector General of Police, Kashmir Zone, V K Birdi on Tuesday said security arrangements have been put in place and are intact across the Valley for the Independence Day celebrations, urging people to participate in the events in large numbers.
Speaking to reporters, Birdi said the Independence Day programme was essentially a function of the people and maintained that the police and other security agencies were only responsible for organising and securing the events.
“It is a people’s function. We are only organizers. People should participate in large numbers,” the IGP said.
He said foolproof security arrangements had been put in place to ensure the celebrations are held peacefully and without disruption.
Asked about the recent twin incidents in south Kashmir, Birdi said the police would share details regarding the attacks at an appropriate time.
He did not disclose further operational details, saying the information would be made public when considered appropriate. [KNT]
