New Delhi, Aug 18, KNT: The Delhi High Court has denied default bail to Jasir Bilal Wani, an accused in the Red Fort blast case, after he challenged the extension granted to the National Investigation Agency to complete its investigation.

Wani had sought default bail on the ground that the statutory period for completion of the investigation had expired and that the extension granted to the NIA could not deprive him of his right to statutory bail.

The case concerns FIR RC-21/2025/NIA/DLI registered by the NIA in connection with the November 10, 2025 blast near Delhi’s Red Fort. Wani was arrested by the agency in November 2025 and is among the accused named in the case.

The NIA had sought additional time to complete the investigation, citing the need to pursue further leads and examine financial and digital links. A Delhi court had earlier granted the agency additional time to complete the probe.

Under Section 43-D(2) of the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act, the normal 90-day investigation period can, subject to the statutory conditions and the court being satisfied with the Public Prosecutor’s report, be extended up to 180 days.

The NIA had earlier filed a chargesheet against 10 accused persons in the Red Fort area car blast case in May 2026, according to its official record.

The allegations against Wani remain subject to judicial determination. [KNT]
