Anantnag, Sep 3, KNT: Congress leader and MLA Ghulam Ahmad Mir on Thursday joined protesting intern doctors at Government Medical College Anantnag, who are seeking an increase in their monthly stipend.

The interns have been pressing for a hike in the stipend, arguing that the existing amount does not adequately reflect the workload and long duty hours they undertake during their internship.

Mir met the protesting interns at the medical college and listened to their concerns regarding the stipend and working conditions.

The protest is part of a wider agitation by MBBS and BDS interns across Jammu and Kashmir, who have been demanding an increase in their monthly stipend from the existing level to ₹30,000.

The interns have maintained that they will continue their protest until a concrete decision is taken on their demand. [KNT]
