People Seek Curbs On Early-Morning Loudspeaker Announcements By Mobile Vendors in Pulwama

Pulwama, Sep 4, KNT: Inhabitants in several parts of Pulwama district have urged the administration to regulate the use of loudspeakers by mobile vegetable and fruit vendors, alleging that high-volume announcements during early morning hours are disturbing residential neighborhoods.

They said some auto-load carriers enter streets and residential areas between around 5:30 AM and 8:00 AM to sell vegetables, fruits and other goods, using loudspeakers to attract customers.

According to locals, the noise is especially difficult for families with young children and elderly members, as well as people who are unwell or recovering from illness.

The locals said they do not oppose street vendors or their means of livelihood, but maintained that commercial activity should be conducted in a manner that does not unnecessarily inconvenience people living in residential areas.

They have appealed to Deputy Commissioner Pulwama and SSP Pulwama to examine the issue and determine whether the use of loudspeakers by such vendors complies with applicable permissions and noise regulations. . [KNT]
