Pulwama, Sep 14, KNT: Patients and attendants at Sub-District Hospital Pampore in south Kashmir’s Pulwama district have appealed to Health and Medical Education Minister Sakeena Itoo to depute a female staff member to conduct Electrocardiogram (ECG) tests for female patients at the hospital.
Locals said female patients, including young and elderly, are currently required to undergo ECG examinations conducted by a male staff member, which they said raises concerns regarding privacy, dignity and personal comfort during the procedure.
They said the issue becomes particularly sensitive when the procedure involves physical contact required for placement of ECG electrodes on the patient’s body.
The patients and attendants urged the Health Department to make suitable staffing arrangements so that female patients can, wherever possible, have their ECG examinations conducted by a trained female staff member.
They appealed to Sakeena Itoo to intervene and direct the concerned authorities to examine the staffing arrangement at Sub-District Hospital Pampore and address the concern without affecting ECG services for patients.
They said the demand was not aimed at disrupting medical services but at ensuring that diagnostic procedures for female patients are carried out with due regard to privacy, dignity and patient comfort. [KNT]
