Srinagar, Sep 24, KNT: The Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly on Thursday defeated a Private Member’s Bill seeking mandatory enrolment of children of public representatives and government servants in government educational institutions.

The bill sought to make government schools the mandatory choice for children of specified categories of public representatives and government employees.

The proposal was taken up during the ongoing autumn session before being put to the House.

The bill was defeated after members considered its provisions and the implications of making government-school enrolment mandatory for the specified categories. [KNT]
