Fayaz Mir seeks Speaker’s intervention to revive pending liquor-ban bill
Srinagar, Sep 24, KNT:Kupwara MLA Mir Mohammad Fayaz on Thursday sought the intervention of Legislative Assembly Speaker Abdul Rahim Rather for taking up his private member’s bill seeking prohibition of alcohol in Jammu and Kashmir, saying the proposal has remained pending for nearly two years.
Fayaz said he had introduced the bill during the first session of the present Assembly and had been waiting for it to be taken up.
The proposed legislation seeks prohibition of the advertisement, sale, purchase, consumption and manufacture of alcoholic drinks in the Union Territory.
The issue came up on the day several private members’ bills relating to prohibition were listed for business in the Assembly.
Fayaz said he would approach the Speaker seeking revival and consideration of his bill in the House. [KNT]
