Transport Commissioner Orders Review of Staff Deployment at Sonamarg Check Post

Srinagar, Oct 1: KNT: The Jammu and Kashmir Transport Commissioner has ordered a 15-day review of staff deployment at the Sonamarg Check Post/Weigh Bridge to assess the productivity of personnel posted there and determine whether their continued deployment is required in view of the changing road alignment and other factors.

According to Order No. 174-TC of 2026 dated Oct 1, a five-member team has been deployed at the Sonamarg Check Post/Weigh Bridge for 15 days with effect from Oct 5, 2026. The team has been directed to perform all duties presently being carried out at the check post and submit specific recommendations regarding the continuation of staff deployment.

The team comprises Mubashir Jan, In-Charge Assistant Regional Transport Officer (ARTO); Mohammad Yunis Khan, Inspector, JKRTC; Abdul Hameed, Inspector, JKRTC; Shabir Pintoo, Motor Vehicle Traffic Authority (MVTA); and Mehboob Khan, MVTA.

The officials have been drawn from different offices and formations, including the UT-level checking squad, RTO Kashmir, ARTO Bandipora, ARTO Shopian and RTO Kashmir.

The order states that the team will continue to remain at the location until it is replaced. The Assistant Regional Transport Officer, Ganderbal, has also been directed to ensure that consolidated workers are deputed to the check post on a temporary basis to assist the team.

The review has been ordered specifically to revisit the requirement for continued posting of staff at the Sonamarg check post and to undertake a detailed assessment of their productivity.

The Transport Commissioner has also directed the Regional Transport Officer, Kashmir, to ensure that no staff member is deputed to the Sonamarg post from now onwards without prior approval of the Transport Commissioner’s office. [KNT]
