Leh, Oct 20, KNT: The Government of India has approved the recruitment of 103 posts for Government Medical College (GMC), Leh, in a staggered manner, paving the way for the institution to meet its staffing requirements ahead of its planned academic operations.

The Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare has informed the Ladakh administration that recruitment against the 103 posts would be undertaken in phases, in accordance with the academic requirements of GMC Leh. The recruitment is to be carried out by the UT administration from the academic year 2027–28 onwards, as stated in the communication.

The ministry also conveyed that the Department of Expenditure had examined the proposal and that the posts could be filled on a regular basis under the approved Recruitment Rules.

Regarding infrastructure, the ministry said the interim arrangement should remain temporary and that, once the proposed infrastructure at Stipuk Pharka, Leh, is completed, the same should be shifted to dedicated infrastructure.

The Ladakh administration has also been advised to fix reasonable timelines for making the proposed infrastructure ready to accommodate the interim arrangement and to inform the Department of Expenditure when the shift to the proposed infrastructure takes place. [KNT]
