SKUAST-K Wraps ICAR Winter School; Focus on Climate-Resilient Farming; Global Experts Lead Sessions

Srinagar, Feb 18, KNT: Sher-e-Kashmir University of Agricultural Sciences and Technology of Kashmir on Wednesday concluded a 21-day ICAR Winter School at its Shalimar campus, focusing on regenerative and organic approaches to climate-resilient agriculture.

The programme, titled ‘Fostering Climate Resilience and Sustainability through Organic and Regenerative Agriculture’, brought together 30 scientists and faculty members from 10 states and Union Territories, underscoring national collaboration in advancing sustainable farming systems.

Conducted under the supervision of Course Director Prof Parmeet Singh, Chief Scientist of Agronomy, the curriculum integrated traditional organic practices with contemporary regenerative science. Over three weeks, the Directorate of Research hosted 40 offline and 10 online sessions delivered by national and international experts.

Among the distinguished speakers was World Food Prize Laureate Dr Rattan Lal, who addressed participants on soil health and carbon sequestration. The programme also featured Prof Baghirath Singh Chauhan from the University of Queensland, Dr Asmita Murumukar from Ohio State University, Dr Ramesh Singh of ICRISAT and Dr K Kathiresan, former Vice-Chancellor of Annamalai University, along with experts from ICAR and various State Agricultural Universities.

At the valedictory function, Director Research SKUAST-K Dr Haroon Rashid Naik commended the organisers for maintaining high scientific standards. He highlighted the blend of interactive lectures, laboratory work and field visits that provided participants with practical exposure to regenerative techniques.
