One Killed, Another Injured as Truck Plunges into Gorge in Central Kashmir

Ganderbal, Oct 1, KNT: One person died on the spot while another sustained critical injuries after a truck skidded off the road and plunged into a deep gorge in Kangan area of central Kashmir’s Ganderbal district.

Officials said the accident occurred near Gadribal Ganiwan when the driver of the truck bearing registration number JK02B-6575 reportedly lost control over the vehicle. The truck rolled down approximately 500 feet into a gorge, resulting in the death of one occupant and leaving the driver seriously injured.

Police identified the deceased as Abdul Razak, son of Abdul Rashid, a resident of Rainawari in Srinagar. The injured driver, identified as Sonu, son of Bodh Raj and a resident of Jammu, was shifted to the Sher-i-Kashmir Institute of Medical Sciences for advanced treatment.

Rescue teams, assisted by locals, retrieved the body from the gorge and transported it for medico-legal formalities. The injured driver was evacuated from the accident site and provided initial medical aid before being referred to Srinagar for specialised care.

The Station House Officer of Police Station Gund said that a case has been registered under FIR number 22/2014 and further investigation into the circumstances leading to the accident is in progress. [KNT]
