Budgam, Feb 26, KNT: MLA Budgam Aga Syed Muntazir Mehdi on Thursday stressed that the airport located in Budgam district is officially named Sheikh-ul-Alam International Airport as per a 2012 government order, but said the designated name is not being properly promoted or reflected in public usage.

The MLA said the airport was named in honour of the revered saint Sheikh Noor-ud-din Noorani, popularly known as Sheikh-ul-Alam, who represents peace, spirituality and communal harmony in Kashmir.

He said the 2012 government order must be respected in letter and spirit and called for necessary steps to ensure the official name is consistently used across all platforms, including official communication and public signage.

The MLA maintained that preserving the officially designated name is a matter of respecting the region’s spiritual and cultural heritage. [KNT]
