Telangana, Feb 18, KNT: A controversy has erupted after customers alleged that sweets and packaged items sold at a Hyderabad outlet of Haldiram’s were either expired or did not carry mandatory manufacturing and expiry details.

The issue reportedly surfaced at the brand’s outlet in the Attapur area when visitors claimed that several products on display lacked basic information such as production dates and shelf life. Some customers further alleged that certain items appeared adulterated, fungus-infested, or had already crossed their expiry date.

Videos circulating on social media purportedly showed boxes of sweets with visible mold, intensifying concerns about food safety and storage standards. Customers also alleged that labeling on some products was either missing or unclear, raising questions about compliance with food safety regulations.

Following complaints, police in Attapur registered a case and initiated an inquiry. Officials said samples of the alleged products have been collected and sent to the Forensic Science Laboratory for examination. Teams from the Food Safety Department are expected to conduct inspections at the outlet to verify the claims and ascertain whether any statutory provisions were violated.

Authorities have stated that investigations are underway and no official findings have been released so far. The development has sparked concern among consumers given the brand’s nationwide presence and reputation in the sweets and snacks market.

Further action will depend on laboratory results and the outcome of the ongoing inspection process. [KNT]
