Killing of Supreme Leader: Mehbooba Extends Support to Mirwaiz’s Strike Call

Srinagar, Mar 1, KNT: The shutdown call issued by Muthida Majlis Ulema chairman Mirwaiz Umar Farooq over the killing of Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei received political backing on Sunday, with Peoples Democratic Party chief Mehbooba Mufti extending full support and solidarity.
In a statement posted on social media, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq said he was deeply saddened and outraged over what he described as the brutal killing of Ayatollah Syed Ali Khamenei in a United States-Israel strike. He said the people of Jammu and Kashmir collectively condemn the action and the ongoing aggression against Iran. He also referred to the reported killing of innocent girl students in Minab, terming it a massacre.
The Mirwaiz said the moment called for unity within the Muslim Ummah and urged people to register their protest and solidarity against the killing and continued aggression in the region. He informed that Mutahida Majlis-e-Ulama had called for a complete strike and appealed to the public to observe it with unity, dignity and complete peacefulness.
Soon after, PDP president Mehbooba Mufti expressed full support for the shutdown call. In her statement, she described the day as one of mourning and said injustice anywhere wounds the entire Muslim Ummah and all who stand for truth. She said Kashmir stands united in grief and resistance with the people of Iran.
The statements came amid widespread protests in several parts of the Valley including Srinagar, Budgam, Pattan and Gund Kangan, where demonstrators marched peacefully to express solidarity with Iran following official confirmation from Tehran regarding the death of its Supreme Leader in coordinated military strikes.
Authorities maintained heightened vigil across sensitive areas to ensure law and order, while most demonstrations remained peaceful. [KNT]
