Jammu, March 11, KNT: Authorities in Jammu and Kashmir on Wednesday reviewed the stock position and supply chain of petroleum products across the Union Territory amid concerns over possible disruptions linked to the evolving situation in the Middle East.

The review meeting was chaired by Satish Sharma and attended by officials of the Food, Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs Department and representatives of major oil marketing companies.

The meeting focused on assessing the availability of essential petroleum products including petrol, diesel, kerosene and LPG and evaluating preparedness in case global developments affect supply chains.

Legislators Zafar Khatana, Saifuddin Bhat and Shafi Wani attended the meeting along with Commissioner Secretary FCS&CA Saurabh Bhagat and senior departmental officers.

Representatives from oil marketing companies including Indian Oil Corporation, Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited and Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Limited were also present.

Officials reviewed the current stock levels of petroleum products, the operational status of fuel depots and LPG bottling plants and the distribution network supplying fuel across districts of the Union Territory.

According to officials present in the meeting, authorities emphasised maintaining adequate buffer stocks and coordination with oil companies to avoid any shortage of fuel in case supply disruptions occur due to international developments.

The minister also asked officials to closely monitor the supply chain and ensure that distribution of petroleum products continues smoothly across Jammu and Kashmir.

Officials said the department has also been asked to keep a watch on fuel stations and LPG outlets to prevent hoarding, black marketing or overcharging.

Enforcement teams from the Legal Metrology and FCS&CA departments have been asked to intensify inspections to ensure compliance with regulations and protect consumer interests. [KNT]
