Srinagar, March 14, KNT: Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) president and former chief minister Mehbooba Mufti on Thursday said that people reposing faith in her party reflects public trust in its agenda and pro-people policies.

Speaking on the occasion of a political joining programme in Srinagar, Mehbooba said the support extended by people to the PDP was a recognition of the party’s stance and its efforts to address the concerns of the people of Jammu and Kashmir.

“The people reposing faith in PDP is a certificate of public trust for the agenda and record of the uncompromising pro-people stance of the party,” Mehbooba Mufti said.

She said that the party’s political agenda had been widely acknowledged as a practical roadmap to address the challenges faced by Jammu and Kashmir.

“It has been widely accepted that PDP’s agenda is the only practical roadmap that can pull the state out of uncertainty and distress,” she said.

Mehbooba said the PDP leadership had demonstrated its ability to deliver on commitments when supported by the people.

“We have demonstrated how, if supported by people, the leadership of this party can deliver on promises of forwarding movement on the resolution of the issue of Jammu and Kashmir,” she added.

Highlighting the party’s tenure in government, Mehbooba said that the PDP-led administration had initiated several developmental and public welfare measures despite facing challenging circumstances.

She said that the government had to deal with law and order challenges during much of its tenure but still managed to introduce several initiatives aimed at public welfare and development.

“Although most of the time we were dealing with the law and order situation and had a limited window to execute development plans, we still took some landmark initiatives,” she said.

Mehbooba listed several measures taken during the PDP’s rule, including the abolition of stamp duty on land registration for women, introduction of a new horticulture policy and steps to ensure smooth food supply to households across the state.

She also referred to the regularisation of around 60,000 daily wagers and contractual employees and the establishment of new medical colleges and hospitals.

Improving road connectivity and expanding infrastructure were among other initiatives undertaken during the PDP’s tenure, she added.

Meanwhile, senior socio-political leader Abdul Qayoom Bath from Shalteng area of Srinagar joined the Peoples Democratic Party along with hundreds of his supporters.

The joining took place in the presence of Mehbooba Mufti, who welcomed the new entrants into the party.

Party leaders said the joining would strengthen the PDP’s organisational base in the area. [KNT]
