CRPF personnel critically injured in accidental gunshot incident in Srinagar

Srinagar, March 16, KNT: A Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) personnel sustained critical injuries after an accidental gunshot incident at a paramilitary camp in Srinagar on Monday, officials said.

The injured trooper, identified as Head Constable Parmot Kumar, aged around 45 years, was shifted to SMHS Hospital Srinagar after the incident, which occurred at the 82 Battalion E-Company camp located at Jahangir Chowk near the old Assembly complex.

Officials said the personnel sustained an accidental gunshot injury from his service rifle while at the camp.

According to initial reports, the bullet entered from the left side of his chest and exited through the upper portion of his back.

Medical officials at SMHS Hospital said the trooper was admitted in critical condition and was undergoing treatment.

Security officials said preliminary information suggests the firing was accidental, though the circumstances surrounding the incident are being examined.  [KNT]
