700 MLT Graduates Face Job Uncertainty as GMC Anantnag Rejects Applications Over Pending Registration

Anantnag, March 23, KNT: More than 700 B.Sc Medical Lab Technology (MLT) graduates in Jammu and Kashmir are facing job uncertainty after Government Medical College (GMC) Anantnag reportedly rejected their applications for lab technician posts citing pending registration certificates.

The issue has emerged as a major concern for recent graduates, many of whom completed their degrees in August 2025 but are yet to receive registration certificates from the Jammu and Kashmir State Allied and Healthcare Council.

The delay has now directly impacted their eligibility for government job recruitment, raising questions over administrative coordination between institutions and regulatory bodies.

Students said that despite repeated follow-ups over the past seven months, their registration process has not been completed. They added that an earlier circular had directed all government medical colleges to consider such candidates as “registration under process.”

However, the situation escalated when GMC Anantnag, in a recent recruitment notification for lab technician posts (Notification No. 05 of 2026), refused to accept application forms from candidates whose registration certificates were still pending.

The All India Medical Students Association (AIMSA) has strongly objected to the move, calling it unjust and detrimental to students’ careers.

Dr Mohammad Moomin Khan, Vice President AIMSA, said the association intervened after being approached by affected students.

“Students reached out to us highlighting that despite completing their degrees months ago, their registrations are still pending, which has now directly impacted their job opportunities. It is deeply concerning that they are being denied the right to apply due to an administrative delay that is not of their making,” he said.

AIMSA has formally appealed to Health and Medical Education Minister Sakina Itoo to intervene in the matter and direct GMC Anantnag to accept applications by treating registrations as “under process,” in line with the earlier circular.

Students expressed fear that continued delays could result in missed employment opportunities and long-term career setbacks.

“If immediate action is not taken, many of us will lose crucial opportunities. This is affecting our future,” said one of the affected graduates.

In Jammu and Kashmir, MLT professionals form a crucial part of diagnostic services in hospitals, and delays in onboarding trained personnel could also impact healthcare delivery. [KNT]
