Rajouri, March 25, KNT: Police have launched a major operation against illegal mining activities in Rajouri district of Jammu and Kashmir, seizing multiple vehicles and intensifying surveillance in identified hotspots, officials said on Wednesday.
The crackdown was carried out across several locations where unauthorized extraction of minerals had been reported, with teams conducting checks and enforcement drives to curb the practice.
Officials said a number of vehicles allegedly involved in illegal mining and transportation of materials were seized during the operation. The exact number of vehicles has not been disclosed.
The move comes amid growing concerns over environmental damage and revenue loss caused by unregulated mining activities in the region.
Police said surveillance has been strengthened in vulnerable areas, including riverbeds and known extraction points, to prevent further violations.
“Strict action is being taken against those involved in illegal mining. Investigations are underway to identify the entire network behind such activities,” an official said.
Authorities indicated that the operation is part of a broader effort to dismantle organized networks engaged in the illegal extraction and transportation of minerals. [KNT]
