Jammu, March 27, KNT: Legislators of the National Conference (NC), led by MLA Tanvir Sadiq, staged a protest on Friday outside the Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly, expressing solidarity with Iran amid the ongoing Middle East crisis.

The protest took place during Assembly proceedings, with NC leaders assembling outside the complex and raising slogans while calling for condemnation of violence against religious and political leaders.

The demonstration comes at a time of heightened tensions in West Asia, prompting reactions from political actors beyond the region. The NC used the protest to underline its position against cross-border attacks and targeted killings.

Speaking to reporters, Tanvir Sadiq said the party stood united in solidarity with Iran and had raised the issue within the Assembly.

“We stand in solidarity with Iran. The entire National Conference and the J&K government stand together,” Sadiq said.

He said he had moved a call attention and an adjournment motion in the Assembly to discuss the issue.

Referring to earlier remarks by party leadership, Sadiq said Chief Minister Omar Abdullah had condemned the reported killing of Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, reiterating the party’s position.

“We believe no country has the right to attack another, and the killing of a religious leader in such a manner is condemnable. The top leadership of the country should also condemn it,” he said.

The National Conference has previously taken positions on international developments, particularly those involving conflict, often calling for restraint and dialogue. [KNT]
