Ramban, April 8, KNT: The Jammu–Srinagar National Highway (NH-44) was closed on Wednesday after a massive landslide struck Shalgadi in Banihal, leaving thousands of passengers and vehicles stranded, officials said.
The landslide blocked the highway, halting traffic movement on the vital road link connecting Kashmir with the rest of the country.
Officials said both light and heavy motor vehicles were affected, with a large number of passengers stranded along the route.
Clearance operations were underway at the site, with machinery deployed to remove debris and restore traffic movement.
Authorities said efforts were being made to reopen the highway at the earliest, subject to weather and road conditions.
Further updates on restoration of traffic were awaited. [KNT]
