Jammu, April 9, KNT: A police constable was injured after a police team attempted to intercept a truck allegedly involved in bovine smuggling in the Miran Sahib area of Jammu, officials said.
The incident occurred during a naka (checkpoint) operation set up by police following specific inputs about a truck suspected of transporting bovine illegally through the area.
According to initial reports, the police team signaled the vehicle to stop for checking. However, as the interception was being carried out, some individuals, including the suspected smugglers, allegedly attacked the police personnel.
Officials said the situation escalated when the group resorted to stone pelting, leading to injuries to at least one police constable during the clash.
The injured constable sustained wounds in the incident, though the extent of his injuries has not been officially detailed. He was shifted for medical attention, officials said.
Police sources indicated that the naka had been established based on prior information about the movement of a truck suspected to be carrying bovine in violation of regulations.
The attempt to foil the smuggling operation led to confrontation, with law enforcement personnel coming under attack while performing their duties.
Authorities have not yet confirmed whether any arrests have been made or whether the vehicle involved has been seized. The number of people involved in the incident also remains unclear.
Security has been tightened in the area following the incident, and further investigation is underway to identify those involved in the attack and the alleged smuggling attempt. [KNT]
