Jammu, April 11, KNT: Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha on Saturday launched a 100-day anti-drug campaign across Jammu and Kashmir, directing strict action against drug networks and calling for public participation to curb substance abuse.
The campaign, titled “Nasha Mukt Jammu Kashmir Abhiyaan,” aims to combine enforcement measures with awareness initiatives to address what officials described as a growing narcotics challenge.
At the launch, the Lieutenant Governor emphasized a zero-tolerance approach, directing authorities not to spare those involved in drug trafficking while focusing on rehabilitation of victims.
As part of the crackdown, the administration plans to initiate punitive measures including cancellation of passports, Aadhaar cards, and driving licenses of individuals found involved in drug peddling.
Officials said financial investigations will also be intensified, with provisions for attaching properties and freezing bank accounts linked to drug-related activities.
The campaign seeks to involve communities by turning the anti-drug effort into a mass movement, with participation from civil society, students, and youth in awareness and outreach programs.
Highlighting the role of families, the Lieutenant Governor said women, particularly mothers and sisters, can play a key role in preventing substance abuse and guiding affected individuals.
Jammu and Kashmir Police have also launched a parallel digital outreach initiative, using social media platforms to spread awareness and encourage reporting of drug-related activities.
The administration said the campaign aims to move towards making Jammu and Kashmir a drug-free region by addressing the issue as a serious law-and-order and social concern. [KNT]
