Budgam, April 13, KNT: Scores of cooks associated with the Education Department staged a protest in Beerwah area of Budgam on Monday, demanding implementation of minimum wages and regularization of their services.
The protest saw participants raising slogans against the government , alleging continued neglect of their issues.
The demonstration saw participation from cooks working under the Mid-Day Meal scheme across various areas, who marched through the main market carrying banners and raising slogans in support of their demands.
“We are working tirelessly for years, yet we are paid a negligible amount. How can a family survive on Rs 30 a day?” one of the protesters said.
Participants expressed resentment over the delay in implementation of minimum wage norms and the absence of a clear policy for regularization, stating that repeated assurances have not translated into action.
They urged the government to address their grievances, ensure fair wages, and provide job security.
The protest concluded peacefully, with participants warning that they would intensify agitation if their demands are not met. [KNT]
