Budgam, April 14, KNT: People’s Democratic Party president Mehbooba Mufti on Tuesday called for renewed dialogue and public engagement while sharply criticizing cow vigilantism, during an interaction program in Budgam.
Speaking at a “Kath Ba’ath” event in Budgam, Mufti thanked participants, including youth and elders, for engaging on a range of issues affecting the district, describing the gathering as reflective of collective concern and public participation.
She said dialogue remains the only way forward and reiterated the relevance of the doctrine of late Mufti Mohammad Sayeed, emphasizing that constructive engagement is essential for addressing issues and working toward lasting peace.
Addressing reporters, Mufti said the program was not driven by political motives but aimed at listening to people, particularly youth, whom she described as “suffering,” “depressed,” and feeling “choked” in the current environment.
“It was important to listen to the youth. If PDP can play any role in mitigating their sufferings, it will be a positive step,” she said.
She added that interactions during the program provided insights into various issues, including discussions around international developments, noting that participants shared perspectives on countries like Iran.
Mufti also criticized incidents of cow vigilantism, urging the BJP to refrain from actions that disturb peace.
“I am telling BJP leaders to stop disturbing peace in the name of cow vigilantism. This is not Uttar Pradesh or Bihar, this is Jammu and Kashmir,” she said.
On foreign policy, Mufti questioned India’s ability to act as a mediator in international conflicts, stating that New Delhi’s relations with Israel could affect perceptions of neutrality. [KNT]
