Jammu, April 14, KNT: Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha on Tuesday dedicated the Tawi Riverfront Project (Phase-I) to the public on the occasion of Baisakhi, marking a major step in the transformation of Jammu’s urban landscape.

The project introduces developed promenades along the left bank, right bank, and a central island, creating continuous stretches for walking, jogging, and cycling, aimed at enhancing public accessibility and recreational use of the riverfront.

The development is part of a broader plan to convert the Tawi riverfront into a key urban and tourism destination, combining infrastructure, culture, and environmental design.

A dedicated ghat has also been created for the Tawi Aarti, integrating religious and cultural elements into the modern riverfront space.

During the event, the Lieutenant Governor also laid the foundation stone for a four-lane connecting road to the right bank, along with a bridge designed to ease congestion and directly link Bhagwati Nagar rotary with Jewel Chowk.

He further launched plans for green spaces along the top promenade of the left bank, describing them as essential to creating a vibrant and inclusive urban environment for residents and visitors.

Sinha said that under the Urban Challenge Fund, two major initiatives are being undertaken, including real estate monetization of Phase-I and extension of the riverfront from Bikram Chowk Bridge to Har Ki Paudi.

“These initiatives will transform the Tawi riverfront into a vibrant tourist destination, a premier recreational hub, and a dynamic economic centre,” he said.

He added that the vision behind the project is to create spaces that are inclusive, accessible, and rooted in cultural identity, blending tradition with modern urban development.

Referring to Jammu’s heritage, Sinha said the city reflects deep spiritual and cultural values, describing it as an ancient temple town enriched over centuries by saints, philosophers, and artists.

He said the government, under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, has worked over the past several years to enhance Jammu’s cultural and urban profile.

The Lieutenant Governor emphasized that culture must be lived and passed on, urging citizens to preserve and honor the legacy of the region while contributing to its future growth. [KNT]
