Jammu Youth Dies After Falling into Gorge in Doda

Doda, April 21, KNT: A youth from Jammu died after falling into a deep gorge in the Bhalessa area of Doda district on Sunday night, officials said.

The deceased has been identified as Dr. Prabhjot Singh, a resident of Bahu Fort area of Jammu, who had travelled to Bhalessa with a friend.

According to initial investigation, Singh had been staying in the area for the past three days. Yesterday late night, while returning from Gundoh towards Chanwri village, their vehicle stopped near Dalmera on the Gundoh–Jai road.

Officials said Singh stepped out of the vehicle during the halt and accidentally fell into a gorge estimated to be around 300 feet deep.

Sub-Divisional Magistrate (SDM) Arun Kumar Badhiyal said police have taken cognizance of the incident and initiated an investigation.

After retrieval, the body was shifted for post-mortem and later handed over to the family, officials said.

Authorities have assured that a thorough inquiry will be conducted to ascertain the exact circumstances leading to the fall. [KNT]
