Kolkata, April 29, KNT: West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has accused central security forces deployed during elections of “acting at BJP’s behest,” triggering a fresh political row as polling activity continues in parts of the state.

The allegation comes amid heightened political tensions, with Banerjee claiming that personnel of central forces, including the Central Reserve Police Force, were not maintaining neutrality during the electoral process.

The Trinamool Congress leadership has pointed to several videos circulating on social media that allegedly show CRPF personnel asking voters to support the Bharatiya Janata Party. The authenticity of these videos has not been independently verified.

The BJP has responded by backing the role of central forces, while party supporters have been actively countering the allegations on social media platforms, defending the conduct of security personnel and accusing the state leadership of attempting to discredit the election process.

The presence of central forces is a standard measure during elections in sensitive regions to ensure free and fair polling, particularly in areas with a history of electoral violence.

The developments have added to the ongoing political confrontation between the ruling Trinamool Congress and the BJP, with both sides trading accusations over the conduct of the election process. [KNT]
