Rajouri, May 2, KNT: Independent MLA Muzaffar Iqbal Khan on Saturday halted ongoing macadamization work in the Thannamandi constituency, alleging the use of substandard material and irregular execution of the project.

The legislator stopped the work on the spot and directed the contractor and workers to cease operations immediately after inspecting the site. He expressed strong displeasure over what he described as poor-quality material being used in the macadamization process.

Khan said the contractor was carrying out only patchwork work instead of macadamizing the entire stretch of road, despite funds having been sanctioned for full resurfacing. He alleged that the material used would not withstand rainfall and could deteriorate quickly, raising concerns over durability and public safety.

The MLA demanded a formal inquiry into the matter, including allegations of corruption linked to the use of substandard material. He stated that the work would not be allowed to resume until proper standards are ensured and the entire road is macadamized as per the sanctioned plan.

Local residents present at the site appreciated the intervention, saying it reflected accountability in public works and responsiveness to public concerns.

Notably, Khan is known for his legal background and has been involved in high-profile legal cases in the region, such as the release of MLA Mehraj Malik. [KNT]
