Srinagar, May 20, KNT: Health and Medical Education Minister Sakina Itoo on Wednesday visited Sher-i-Kashmir Institute of Medical Sciences (SKIMS) to inquire about the health condition of Muhammad Jahangir Malik and directed doctors to ensure proper medical care and treatment for him.

During the visit, the minister interacted with doctors attending to Malik and reviewed his treatment and medical condition.

The case has drawn public attention after Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) president Mehbooba Mufti alleged that Muhammad Jahangir Malik of DH Pora area in Kulgam was forcibly taken by Army personnel of 9 Rashtriya Rifles toward a forest cave during a search operation where he was later mauled by a bear. Mehbooba had appealed to the Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Kulgam to look into the matter.

Speaking to Kashmir News Trust during her visit, Sakina Itoo said she had remained in touch with the family from the day the incident occurred and was closely monitoring Malik’s treatment.

The minister said the government was concerned about the patient’s wellbeing and emphasized the need for quality medical care.

She instructed doctors and hospital authorities to provide the best possible treatment and leave no room for negligence in managing the case.

Director SKIMS, Dr. Muhammad Ashraf, accompanied the minister during the hospital visit and held discussions with the concerned doctors regarding Malik’s condition and ongoing treatment.

Hospital officials briefed the minister about the patient’s health status and medical management.

The visit witnessed interaction between the minister, medical staff and family members as authorities reviewed arrangements related to treatment and patient care.

The incident involving Malik has remained under discussion following political attention and calls for inquiry into the circumstances surrounding the reported bear mauling. [KNT]
