FAIMA Raises Security Concerns After Alleged Trespass, Videography in GMC Rajouri

Rajouri, May 24, KNT: A serious security breach has been alleged at the Government Medical College (GMC) Rajouri after outsiders reportedly entered the Labour Room during the night, threatened doctors, and carried out unauthorized videography inside the sensitive patient-care area, prompting demands for stronger hospital security and legal action.
According to an official communication issued by the Medical Superintendent of GMC Rajouri, the incident occurred on the night of May 17 in the Gynecology and Obstetrics Department. The report stated that some outsiders entered the Labour Room without authorization and claimed to be attendants of a patient admitted at the hospital.
The communication identified one of the alleged outsiders as Feroz Khan and stated that the individuals approached doctors regarding a patient and repeatedly insisted on immediate surgical intervention.
Hospital authorities said the patient was being managed according to established medical protocol and did not require immediate operative intervention at that stage.
The report further alleged that the outsiders began threatening the doctor on duty and carried out unauthorized videography inside the Labour Room, where photography and videography are prohibited owing to the sensitive nature of the facility.
According to the official account, senior doctors, security personnel and police officials intervened and directed the individuals to leave the premises. However, authorities alleged that the outsiders also argued with security and police personnel before being escorted out.
Hospital authorities further alleged that while leaving, the accused threatened doctors and hospital staff with serious consequences.
The Medical Superintendent’s report stated that CCTV footage available with the administration supports the claims made by doctors and staff and has been enclosed for reference.
The communication also flagged broader concerns regarding security arrangements in the hospital, particularly in sensitive areas such as the Labour Room where female doctors and staff remain posted during night and emergency duties.
The report sought strengthening of security arrangements and sought an explanation from security authorities regarding alleged lapses that enabled unauthorized entry into the restricted area.
The Federation of All India Medical Association (FAIMA) reacted strongly to the incident and sought immediate intervention from Health Minister Sakina Itoo.
Dr. Mohammad Momin Khan of FAIMA termed the alleged incident “unbelievable” and demanded immediate arrests of those involved.
He urged the Rajouri administration and police to take strict legal action and strengthen security in hospitals across Jammu and Kashmir, stating that attacks and intimidation against healthcare workers were increasing.
Dr. Momin also referred to the recent alleged assault on a doctor at District Hospital Pulwama, saying the two incidents had raised serious concerns over the safety of healthcare professionals. [KNT]
