Kulgam, June 9, KNT: The District Administration Kulgam on Tuesday carried out a demolition drive along the Kulgam Bypass on National Highway-444 to remove encroachments and facilitate the widening of the highway corridor.
The operation was undertaken as part of efforts to ensure the smooth execution of the highway expansion project, which is aimed at improving traffic flow and connectivity along the important road stretch.
Officials said the drive was conducted under due legal procedures and in the presence of senior district officials, revenue authorities, and police personnel.
The structures identified for removal had already been compensated in accordance with the acquisition process, officials said, adding that the demolition was undertaken only after completion of the required formalities.
Revenue and police teams assisted the administration during the operation to ensure the peaceful execution of the drive and maintain law and order at the site.
The clearance of structures is expected to accelerate work on the Kulgam Bypass project, a key component of the broader effort to broaden and upgrade NH-444.
Officials said removal of remaining obstacles along the corridor would help project authorities proceed with construction activities without further delays.
The NH-444 expansion project is expected to improve road capacity, ease congestion, and enhance connectivity for commuters using the route. [KNT]
