Kulgam, June 10, KNT: Deputy Commissioner Kulgam, Shahzad Alam, on Wednesday directed officials to enhance the participation of women and persons with disabilities under the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (MGNREGA), while stressing transparency and quality asset creation in the implementation of the flagship rural employment scheme.

Chairing a comprehensive review meeting on MGNREGA works in the district, the Deputy Commissioner emphasized the need to ensure that the scheme translates into meaningful employment opportunities and durable community assets.

The meeting reviewed the progress of ongoing works, employment generation targets and the status of various development projects being executed under MGNREGA across the district.

Shahzad Alam directed officials to make special efforts to increase the participation of women workers, particularly those above the age of 40, and ensure greater inclusion of persons with disabilities in the scheme.

He stressed that transparency, accountability and adherence to quality standards must remain central to all works undertaken under MGNREGA, adding that the focus should be on creating productive and sustainable assets that directly benefit rural communities.

The Deputy Commissioner also reviewed measures aimed at improving implementation and ensuring that eligible households receive employment opportunities under the program in a timely manner.

Officials were instructed to closely monitor ongoing projects and address bottlenecks to ensure effective utilization of resources and achievement of employment generation objectives. [KNT]
