Srinagar, June 14, KNT: Frustrated by deteriorating roads and what they describe as the absence of elected representatives, residents of several Srinagar localities have questioned why basic civic issues continue to remain unresolved years after the 2024 Assembly elections.

The sharpest criticism has emerged from Padshahi Bagh, Mehjoor Nagar and parts of Jawahar Nagar, where residents say roads have deteriorated to such an extent that daily commuting has become a challenge.

Locals described the condition of the Padshahi Bagh road as “pathetic,” alleging that years of wear and tear coupled with official neglect have left the stretch riddled with potholes, broken surfaces and damaged patches.

Similar complaints have surfaced from the interior areas of Jawahar Nagar and Mehjoor Nagar, where locals said vehicles are frequently damaged while pedestrians, particularly elderly citizens and schoolchildren, are forced to navigate unsafe road conditions.

What has added to public resentment, residents said, is the perceived absence of lawmakers from the affected areas.

“We don’t even know whom to approach anymore,” several locals told the news agency Kashmir News Trust, claiming that elected representatives have largely remained invisible on the ground despite mounting civic problems.

Residents of Mehjoor Nagar and Padshahi Bagh alleged that their legislators have not visited the localities since the 2024 elections, leaving people without a platform to highlight their grievances.

Appealing to the administration and concerned departments, locals demanded immediate macadamization of the damaged roads and a comprehensive survey of all dilapidated stretches across Srinagar city.

They urged authorities to act before the situation worsens further and restore roads that they say have remained neglected for far too long. [KNT]
