
Ganderbal, June 15, KNT: Rescue teams on Monday recovered the body of a 19-year-old girl from a power canal in Ganderbal district, while efforts continued to trace another person feared drowned in the same incident.
The deceased has been identified as Sabreena, daughter of Fazal-ur-Rehman Khan, a resident of Ramwari Kangan.
Officials said the incident occurred in the power canal near Akhal Gund in the Kangan area, where two persons were reportedly swept away, triggering a major rescue operation.
Following the incident, teams from police, rescue agencies and local volunteers rushed to the spot and launched extensive searches along the canal.
After hours of operation, rescuers recovered the body of Sabreena from the canal. Her body was subsequently taken for completion of medico-legal formalities.
Meanwhile, search teams continued combing the canal and adjoining areas to locate the second missing person, who remained untraced till the filing of this report.
The incident drew a large number of locals to the area as rescue personnel intensified efforts amid challenging conditions posed by the fast-flowing waters.
Authorities said the operation would continue until the remaining missing person is traced.
