Srinagar, June 20, KNT: PDP leader Iltija Mufti on Saturday launched a scathing attack on the National Conference government, alleging the existence of an “extortion mafia” in transfers and postings of doctors and government officials and questioning the administration’s accountability in the wake of the controversy surrounding suspended GMC Anantnag cardiologist Dr. Syed Maqbool.

Iltija’s remarks came after the government suspended the cardiologist following an inquiry into alleged irregularities in cardiac procedures conducted under the PMJAY-SEHAT scheme. Using the episode to widen her attack on the government, the PDP leader alleged that corruption in transfers and postings had become institutionalized under the present dispensation.

“There are serious allegations against the NC Government charging lakhs for transfers of doctors and government officers, so what accountability can one expect?” Mufti said in a post on X.

She went on to allege the existence of a “full-fledged extortion mafia sanctioned from the very top” and claimed that corruption was being viewed as indispensable for funding and winning elections. [KNT]
