Anantnag, June 25, KNT: Families whose house was destroyed in a devastating fire in south Kashmir’s Anantnag district have alleged that they are being forced to run from one office to another as the Anantnag Municipal Committee has yet to grant permission for reconstruction, nearly three months after the incident.
The affected families said a residential house accommodating four families was gutted in a fire at Gujnag, Kadipora, in March this year, leaving them without shelter. Since then, they have been waiting for approval from the Municipal Committee to rebuild the structure.
One of the fire victims, Majid Hussain Shah, told the news agency Kashmir News Trust that despite repeated visits to the Municipal Committee, no permission has been granted so far.
He alleged that the office of the Deputy Commissioner, Anantnag, had also written to the Municipal Committee, directing it to facilitate reconstruction of the damaged house, but the matter continues to remain pending.
“The committee is delaying the process, forcing us to visit its office almost every day. We have suffered enough due to the fire and are now facing unnecessary hardships because of the delay in granting approval,” he said.
The affected families appealed to the Chief Executive Officer of the Anantnag Municipal Committee, Mirza Adil Beg, to personally intervene and ensure that permission for reconstruction is issued without further delay so they can rebuild their homes and resume normal life.
Efforts to contact Chief Executive Officer of the Anantnag Municipal Committee, Mirza Adil Beg didn’t materialize. [KNT]
