Registered Amarnath Yatris Allege Discrimination, Claim On-the-Spot Registrants Given Preference
Ganderbal, July 4, KNT: Scores of Amarnath Yatris on Saturday alleged that they were denied permission to proceed towards the Holy Cave despite possessing valid registrations, while pilgrims who reportedly completed the registration process on the spot or arrived without prior online registration were allowed to undertake the pilgrimage.
One of the stranded pilgrims told the news agency Kashmir News Trust that nearly 600 registered yatris were waiting at the Baltal base camp despite having completed the mandatory registration process nearly two months ago.
“We registered ourselves almost two months in advance as per the prescribed procedure. Ironically, those who arrived without online registration or completed the formalities on the spot were allowed to proceed ahead of us,” the pilgrim alleged.
The stranded yatris claimed that they had complied with all the guidelines, including advance registration, but were left waiting without any clear explanation from the authorities.
They appealed to the Shri Amarnath Ji Shrine Board (SASB) and the civil administration to look into the matter and ensure that pilgrims who completed the registration process well in advance are not deprived of their opportunity to offer obeisance at the Holy Cave. [KNT]
