Srinagar, July 6, KNT: The National Investigation Agency (NIA) on Monday filed charges against Pakistan-based terrorist and Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) chief Hafiz Saeed in connection with the April 22, 2025 Pahalgam attack that claimed the lives of 26 civilians, including 25 tourists and a local resident.

According to the NIA, Hafiz Saeed has been chargesheeted in his individual capacity as well as in his role as the chief of the banned Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) and its proxy outfit, The Resistance Front (TRF).

NIA has invoked various provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), 2023, and the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA), 1967. The charges include waging war against India and conspiring from across the border to execute the deadly terror attack.

The chargesheet, filed as a continuation of the original 1,597-page chargesheet, details Pakistan’s alleged conspiracy, Hafiz Saeed’s role in orchestrating the attack and the evidence gathered by the agency through scientific investigation and extensive field inquiries.

The NIA said the supplementary chargesheet builds upon its earlier investigation. In December last year, the agency had chargesheeted Pakistan-based handler Sajid Jatt, along with three terrorists who were later killed by security forces during Operation Mahadev in July 2025, besides two arrested accused.

The agency had also chargesheeted the banned Lashkar-e-Taiba and its proxy outfit, The Resistance Front (TRF), as legal entities for allegedly planning, facilitating and executing the Pahalgam terror attack.

The Pahalgam attack had left 25 tourists and a local resident dead.  [KNT]
