Ladakh, April 11, KNT: Aadhaar records of residents in Ladakh have been updated to replace “Jammu & Kashmir” with “Ladakh” in the ‘state’ field, following intervention by authorities to address discrepancies after the 2019 reorganization.
According to an official release, the issue had persisted since Ladakh was carved out as a Union Territory, with Aadhaar data continuing to reflect the earlier classification.
Lieutenant Governor Vinai Kumar Saxena took note of the matter and directed the administration to resolve it.
The administration subsequently coordinated with the Unique Identification Authority of India to correct the records.

Officials said the discrepancy had caused inconvenience to residents while using Aadhaar as identity and address proof, as the ‘state’ field did not match the current administrative status.
To resolve the issue, a centralized update mechanism was implemented using PIN codes specific to Ladakh. These were verified in coordination with India Post and shared with UIDAI, enabling bulk correction without requiring individuals to visit Aadhaar centers.
Authorities said the update has now aligned Aadhaar records with the current administrative structure. [KNT]
