Srinagar, Feb 21, KNT: Deputy Commissioner Srinagar Akshay Labroo on Saturday said the district administration is taking practical steps to decongest the city and strengthen infrastructure, particularly around major healthcare institutions.

Speaking to reporters during his visit to Bone and Joint Hospital Barzulla, the Deputy Commissioner said the primary objective is to ease frequent traffic jams and ensure smoother movement of vehicles, especially ambulances and patients.

He said an alternate route, locally referred to as Sonar Pul, is being developed between SMHS Hospital Srinagar and Super Speciality Hospital Sheer Bagh to facilitate swift access for patients. The work on the project is in progress.

Labroo further said the Barzulla Bund Road has been completed and vehicular movement has already commenced. The administration is now exploring ways to connect the Bund Road with Chanapora to improve traffic circulation in adjoining areas.

He added that work has begun on creating an alternate entry point for patients at the Bone and Joint Hospital to streamline inflow and reduce congestion at the main gate. Parking facilities are also being developed along the Bund Road, and light motor vehicles are currently plying through the underpass bridge to enhance connectivity.

The Deputy Commissioner said these measures are part of a broader plan to address traffic bottlenecks and improve public convenience across the city. [KNT]
